Exhibitions in Vienna in 2018
During the anniversary year, numerous exhibitions explore how artists, scientists, architects and countless others shaped fin-de-siècle Vienna forever.
The capital’s major exhibition spaces are mounting a series of comprehensive shows devoted to the protagonists of Viennese Modernism in 2018. Egon Schiele’s creative output takes centre stage at the Leopold Museum and the Orangery at the Belvedere.
Gustav Klimt’s oeuvre will have pride of place at the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien and the Lower Belvedere. Furthermore the great artist’s studio in the 13th district will feature a temporary show inspired by the 2018 theme year.
The MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts/Contemporary Art will be providing a portrait of Wiener Werkstätte co-founder Koloman Moser, while the Wien Museum Karlsplatz will be putting the “world capital architect” Otto Wagner in the limelight. At the Imperial Furniture Collection the focus will be on Viennese Modernist furniture design by Otto Wagner, Josef Hoffmann and Adolf Loos.
Meanwhile, the Jewish Museum Vienna and the Ernst Fuchs Museum will be looking at the phenomenon of the Viennese salon. Additional highlights related to Viennese Modernism can be found at the Arnold Schönberg Center, the House of Music, the Literature Museum and the Wittgenstein House.
